Care and reimbursement in country of residence
If your family members have health insurance through the CAK, they are insured for healthcare costs in the country where they live. What they are refunded for, and how much, depends on the rules in the country where they live. You can request information about this from the designated health insurer in the country of residence.
Good to know
- Your family members will use the health insurance card or the registration certificate of the designated local health insurer in their country of residence.
- They are insured for all basic care, according to the rules in their country of residence.
- This insurance is covered by the healthcare contribution. You do not pay a healthcare premium to the local health insurer.
- Any personal contribution, excess or supplementary insurance that you opt for, is payable by you to the health insurer in your country of residence.
- Claims should be submitted to the health insurer in your country of residence.
Tip
Enquire with the designated health insurer in the country of residence to find out which treatments and medicines are refunded. Your Dutch health insurer will tell you which health insurer is the designated health insurer. Or you can check out the overview of health insurers by country.
