For whom is the CAK-issued EHIC?
The EHIC issued by the CAK is for people who are insured through the CAK and live in the EU/EEA, the United Kingdom or Switzerland.
Good to know
- Each family member receives their own EHIC.
- The EHIC is a plastic card.
- The expiry date is printed on the card.
How do I obtain an EHIC?
That depends on your situation. Pensioners and benefit recipients will receive the card automatically. Cross-border workers can apply to us online for EHICs for their family members.
Pensioners and benefit recipients
You will automatically receive the EHIC from the CAK as soon as your insurance with us starts. Have you not received an EHIC within 6 weeks after the start date of your health insurance? In that case, call us or send us a message using the online contact form.
Tip
Do you have co-insured family members? Then they will automatically receive their own EHICs as well. However, this may take a little longer, because we first have to wait for confirmation from the health insurer in your country of residence. This insurer must first agree to the co-insurance.
Valid until
The EHIC is always valid until the end of the calendar year. The expiry date is printed on the card. The EHIC for the following year will be sent to you automatically in October of each year.
Family members of cross-border workers
You can apply for EHICs for your family members via the digital application form.
Please note: this is only possible after the start date of your family members’ health insurance. Your family members will receive the card by post within 3 weeks.
Valid until
The EHIC is always valid until the end of the calendar year. The expiry date is printed on the card. You only need to apply for the card once. The EHICs for the following year will be sent to your family members automatically in October of each year.
Tip
You will receive your own EHIC from your Dutch health insurer. The EHIC is often not a separate card, but is instead printed on the back of your health insurance card.
Tip
Has your EHIC been lost or stolen? If so, contact us as soon as possible.
