How do I report the death of a co-insured family member?
How can I unsubscribe my deceased family member?
This can be done in 2 ways:
- You inform the local health insurance fund or the local health insurance company that your family member has died. They'll send us an official unsubscription. Within the EU/EEA we will be notified within days, but for example in Turkey or Morocco this can take a couple of weeks.
- The other option is to send us a copy of the death certificate via the secure online contact form (as an attachment). Or by post. We will then send a message to the local health insurance fund or the local health insurance company that your family member has died.
When will the healthcare contribution I paid for my deceased family member end?
As of the date of death, you will no longer pay a treaty contribution for your deceased family member. We do need an official confirmation of the death. This may be a message from the local health insurance fund or the local health insurance company or a copy of the death certificate.
Will I get a final bill or refund?
Was your deceased family member the only one co-insured with you? Then you'll get a final bill. We will let you know if an amount is still open or if you receive a refund.
Do you have any other co-insured family members? Then we will send you a correction invoice for the healthcare contribution you pay this year.
My partner died and he/she was the breadwinner. I am co-insured through the CAK. What now?
Unfortunately, you will no longer be insured via the CAK. Contact your local health insurance fund/insurer. They can advise you on your own health insurance. They also send us an official message of your partner’s death. You can also pass this on to us yourself, but we do need a copy of the death certificate. You can also call us on + 31 88 711 5551.
